Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead until a soft dough forms. Let it rise for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the cherry filling evenly.
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar over the cherries.
  6. Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar and milk to create icing and drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of skim.
  • Frozen cherries can be used, just thaw and drain excess liquid.
  • These rolls are best served warm.
