Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
  2. Add the sourdough starter and water, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
  4. After the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface and shape it into a ball.
  5. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes, then shape it again and place it in a floured proofing basket.
  6. Cover and let it rise for another 1-2 hours.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
  8. Carefully transfer the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure your sourdough starter is active before using.
  • For a crustier bread, bake it longer without the lid.
  • This bread can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
