Delicious cinnamon rolls made using sourdough discard, perfect for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough discard
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine sourdough discard, milk, sugar, melted butter, and egg.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, instant yeast, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread with softened butter.
  7. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar over the buttered dough, and add raisins if desired.
  8. Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a sweeter roll, increase the sugar in the filling.
  • These rolls can be frozen before baking for later use.
  • Top with cream cheese frosting for an extra treat.
